to women, or
repealing Selective Service altogether

A letter from Richland Meeting to Friends of Conscience

As you may have been following, earlier this year, the US House of Representatives approved a provision to expand Selective Service registration (the draft) to women. While we were disappointed in this outcome, it is not too late for us to End the Draft, Once and for All!

The Center on Conscience & War continues to work hard to educate lawmakers about the concerns of conscientious objectors. We support an end to draft registration for all, and restoration of full rights to people of conscience who have violated the law and refused to register for the draft.

Now the Senate will be taking up the issue of expanding the draft to women or repealing Selective Service altogether, as it acts on the "must-pass" National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

Senator Wyden of Oregon, along with Senator Lummis of Wyoming, have entered an amendment to the NDAA (Amendment #4161) to repeal Selective Service, overturn the penalities imposed on all non-registrants, and protect the rights of conscientious objectors.

If you feel so moved, today would be the day to contact your Senators and ask them to support the Wyden/Lummis amendment to repeal Selective Service.
And for more inspiration to support people of conscience and end the draft, please save the date: On Sunday, December 12, 4pm Eastern/1pm Pacific, CCW will host a virtual round table discussion on the new film, The Boys Who Said No! Draft Resistance and the Vietnam War.

We will send out registration details soon by email, and they also will be available on our social media pages in the coming days. When you register, you will receive a link to view the film at your convenience during the day before or the day after the December 12 event. We hope you will join us for this important and engaging new film and discussion!

Until then, thank you for all you do to support conscientious objectors to war!

Peace,
Maria Santelli and Bill Galvin
